LENDING A WHITE HAND TO THOSE WHO NEED HELP

Munr KazmirNov 12, 2018

If you read my articles regularly, you know that I like to use this space to talk about major news and world events.

And today I want to bring your attention to something I consider to be relevant in both of those categories.

I am talking about the White Hand Association.

The White Hand Association is the brainchild of Sonia Al maaytah, and the idea behind it is to work with prisoners so that when they are released, they have the physical skills and psychological capacity to not only find jobs, but also mentally cope with being out of prison and back in the general populace.

The hard work to rehabilitate these prisoners will be done in Jordan, where the King and Queen have been very supportive of the project and deserve a lot of credit for how open-minded they have been in that regard.

And the organization has such broad support that it even includes some who live well outside of Jordan.

“This is being done where I am from, so while I live in the United States now, I have a deep passion for the work being done to help those who will be a part of this program,” said Dr. Aiman Hamdan, a New Jersey based physician who is supporting the project because of his Jordanian roots as well as his belief in this particular cause.

“The White Hand Association is poised to do great work and so I am proud to support Sonia in her mission. She has put together an outstanding plan for helping to re-integrate prisoners into society, and I look forward to doing what I can to lend as much assistance as I can to the project as it continues the process of getting off the ground.”

What makes Sonia Al maaytah uniquely qualified to spearhead this organization is not just her background, but her deep understanding of the fact that when people are sent to prison, whether it is for a violent or non-violent crime, the ultimate goal of the system is supposed to be to punish the offenders and rehabilitate them so that when their sentences are up, they can re-join society as productive citizens.

That is how it is supposed to work…..in theory.

However, in reality, it far too often does not work out that way.

Prisoners frequently come out of prison worse than they were before entering, which causes the odds of them becoming re-offenders to go up astronomically.

That’s why the White Hand Association is such an important organization and is so deserving of support.

Here is just a partial list of what White Hand Association’s blueprint for helping prisoners re-adjust to life after lock-up:

Qualifying them scientifically from the professional side and provide them with skills according to their preferences through lectures and courses in ICDL, computer, secretarial courses, office management and using modern methods of communication, so that they can get jobs according to their practical skills in the local community institutions.

Holding literacy courses for the prisoners who missed primary education, for the purpose of giving them the opportunity of reading and writing.

Allow the prisoners to continue the basic stages of education up to the high school level. The objective is to qualify all those who wish to continue university education to obtain university degrees after the expiration of their term of office, so that they will be qualified to study at the university for those who successfully passed the secondary level.

Vocational training including full courses will in the secretarial works of file management and office management along with specialized courses in the skills of using the methods of modern technology in communication. This is meant to develop their professional skills according to their wishes and desires, through training them in simple and modern sewing and knitting, manual and automatic embroidery, methods of making pickles, cheeses and milk, and rehabilitating them to work in factories commensurate with the work they have been trained on.

The importance of this project cannot be overstated, because the success of it means similar results could potentially be spread to other nations around the globe.

People often say they want to make the world a better place, but helping the White Hand Association reach its goals is a way to go beyond talk and truly make a tangible difference in the world.

And the most important thing you can do to help right now is show Sonia Al maaytah how great you think her idea is by contacting her and pledging your support.
